Heart Diseases (Also called: Cardiac diseases)

— video script below —

If you’re like most people, you think that heart disease is a problem for others. But heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S. It is also a major cause of disability. There are many different forms of heart disease. The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It’s the major reason people have heart attacks.

Other kinds of heart problems may happen to the valves in the heart, or the heart may not pump well and cause heart failure. Some people are born with heart disease.

You can help reduce your risk of heart disease by taking steps to control factors that put you at greater risk:

Control your blood pressure
Lower your cholesterol
Don’t smoke
Get enough exercise

Critical Illness / Dread Disease Cover

diseases No Comments »

Critical Illness / Dread Disease Cover

Insuring for critical illness needs to happen as young as possible since this is frequently the first type of insurance that Insurers will either outright decline or place loadings and exclusions on as soon as you develop any health related problems.
65% of policy holders that have this kind of benefit end up claiming against it. You thus have a much better chance of claiming against this insurance than not.
Don’t end up being one of those people who want to apply for critical illness cover once they have had their first health scare and it becomes unaffordable or outright impossible to get.

Vitamin D and its deficiency associated disease (Ricket & Osteomalacia)

diseases No Comments »

A commentary by Mayo Clinic Nephrologist Rajiv Kumar, M.D., in the current issue of the journal Kidney International suggests that Vitamin D may improve the treatment of renal disease. Dr. Kumar says that while larger clinical trials are needed, he believes doctors should start treating patients with diabetes who have low serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin (the active form of vitamin D) with vitamin D3 to help slow down the progression of kidney damage. Dr. Kumar cautions that more research is needed and that patients should always consult their doctors before consuming vitamin D supplements on their own.

Symptoms of Kidney Disease

In this video nephrologist Danuta Trzebinska, MD at UC San Diego Health (https://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/nephrology) discusses the symptoms associated with different stages of chronic kidney disease and how they worsen as you progress from the least severe stage to the most severe stage. Chronic kidney disease is a silent disease and some patients will have nonspecific symptoms only, which are often ignored or overlooked until their kidney disease is quite advanced.

When medications were no longer providing relief for David Mackrell’s chronic acid reflux, the New Jersey man turned to Dr. Ragui Sadek, Director of Bariatric Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. After using the endo-flip to precisely measure David’s esophagus, Dr. Sadek installed a Linx device to permanently control his acid reflux.
